NOLA Bookfair Sunday, Nov 1 2009

I will be participating in the NOLA Bookfair on Saturday, Nov. 7. I will be reading at the Apple Barrel Bar, 609 Frenchman St. around 1:30 or 2:00 pm (fourth in a series that starts as 12 but, hey, it’s New Orleans), and parked the rest of the day at a table in Cafe Negril, 606 Frenchman St. the rest of the day (from 10 a.m. until around 5) selling and signing Carry Me Home A Journey Back to New Orleans and giving away a little chapbook free to stop by and grab one.

The NOLA Bookfair this year features John Berendt, author of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil as featured guest, and first-rate local writers Louis Maistros and Ethan Brown of Shake the Devil Off will read at Friday night’s kick off party at 7 p.m. at the Sound Cafe coffeehouse.

It’s going to be a great time so stop by even if just for a while on your way to the Merlinton Festival.

Shake the Devil Off Thursday, Sep 3 2009

Thanks to Ethan Brown for the nice plug of a quote in the Epilogue to his excellent book Shake the Devil Off, which I only discovered when I attended his reading at Octavia Books. He references the book but also quotes a piece from the blog Toulouse Street Odd Bits of Life in New Orleans.

A new bookstore Saturday, May 23 2009

I don’t much frequent Oak Street in New Orleans any more and had not noticed the excellent Blue Cypress Books, specializing in used and local interest books. I saw an event for another author there and so dropped in this week. Carry Me Home is now also available there, and we discussed doing aa reading there in the near future. (finally; I have only done signings until now due to the space limits of the locations).

So add Blue Cypress Books, 8126 Oak Street in the Carrollton section of New Orleans to our list of outlets. And if you’ve been staying away from Oak Street due to the massive construction project, they’re finished on the Carrollton Avenue end so there’s no reason not to stop by.

Book Signing at Marigny Art & Books Thursday, Apr 9 2009

Mark Folse will sign his book Carry Me Home A Journey Back to New Orleans at Faubourg Marigny Art & Books, 600 Frenchman Street, on Friday April 17 from 6-8 pm. Come by after French Quarter Fest and stop by. I won’t be trying to read into that noisy crowd (we’ll be outside) but I will be passing by the usual wine and such in favor of passing out tots of Old New Orleans rum to interested passer’s by, so stop by and have a drink.

The Voices of New Orleans blog published by Chin Music Press (publisher of the Do You Know (What It Means to Miss New Orleans), review Carry Me Home.

It belongs on the bookshelf alongside the other worthy post-Katrina works. Mr. Folse’s heart is absolutely in the right place, and it is that heart — that passion — that the reader will ultimately remember from this book. Although faith may waver, the final point of this book is that New Orleans must survive.
